Hi! My name is Savannah Garst, and I am a fourth-year Cellular Biology major, who is attending dental school starting in May at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.

I have previously done research in Dr. Schulz lab, studying germline stem cells in Drosophila gonads. During spring of my junior year, my research work began focusing on using PCR from genomic DNA to sequence mutant alleles of a gene called comeback, which encodes a translation initiation factor that may be required to initiate stem cell daughter differentiation.

Outside of the lab, I work as the Office Assistant in the Cellular Biology Department, as well as serve as an Honors Teaching Assistant (HTA) for the Honors College and a Volunteer at Thomas Lay Afterschool Mentor Program.

I also love to travel, play tennis, and try new restaurants in Athens!
