Hi everyone! My name is Alex Mitra, and I am a fourth-year pre-med undergrad majoring in Cellular Biology with minors in Spanish and Chemistry. I work in Dr. Maor Bar-Peled’s lab in the CCRC where I study sugars found in bacterial cell walls relevant to pathogenicity in patients with cystic fibrosis.

Outside of the lab, I am the co-president of MEDLIFE at UGA, a student-run chapter of the international nonprofit organization where we focus on volunteering throughout Athens and fundraising for building education and healthcare infrastructure in various Latin American countries. I am also a PLA for BCMB 3100 and tutor at the Athens Area Homeless Shelter. I will be applying to medical school in Spring 2026 and plan to take the MCAT next semester as well!

Apart from academics, I enjoy reading, trying new foods and playing tennis, pickleball and video games.
